Putting Passions to Purpose
What made you decide to enroll in Program Administration with RMP at UNH?
I was attending Leadership camp the winter break of my freshman year as undeclared student in COLA, and a few RMP students (who seemed to be almost as crazy as I am) thought I really fit the energetic and passionate mold of an RMP Program Administration student. I had no idea what they were talking about, because I had never heard of this program before. To my wondering surprise, when I got back to campus, I began to discover that most of the friends I had made before were also RMP students, so I decided to give it a try and jump in head first!
Describe your most memorable experience as a student of the RMP Dept
There are so many memorable moments, but I can narrow them down to just three top ones! Being in charge of volunteers for the 5K road race in Durham that my class hosted with the help of local Friends of Oyster River Track (FORT), and being asked to appear in a video promoting the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS)— representing the RMP department was a huge honor! Also, the RMP cookout is always a great memory, every semester we come together as a family and represent ourselves in a community setting.
What are your future career plans?
I hope that my future career plans will involve some sort of recreation combined with some other passions of mine like law enforcement, motivation, and passionate people doing great things. Not exactly sure what that will look like yet, but it will be beautiful because I have the best help here at UNH RMP!
Explain some of your favorite aspects of our program?
Some of my favorite aspects include the people, the passion, and the fun! The RMPeople are always the cream of the crazy crop; if you have met them, you know what I mean. The passion that is spewing from every single person who is involved in RMP is incredible, and the fun, my goodness the fun we have collectively is unmatched I must say!
Why would you recommend this program to future students?
I would recommend this program to future students because this program is so broad and so fun that you can really do anything you want successfully. It puts the clay in your hands; you create what you want. That is why I joined RMP!
What would you want to say to future students of this program?
Future students, lend me your ears…If you want the ability to create what makes you happy into the reality you are wishing for, then you must try this out. Even if you have absolutely no idea what you want to do (like me) please try this program before the time passes. They say make the most of your college experience, I say if you do not understand what it is like to deal with the fun and excitement of recreation, people, and the freedom to create then you are not making the most of your time here.
I will leave you with this. I’m up when the sun comes up because I’m fueled by life itself, no need for coffees throughout the day because I’m stressed or naps at 3 o’clock because I’m tired. I am driven by my desire to make the most of my life. What gets you out of bed in the morning? What keeps you going at 1am? What makes you do what you do to the best of your ability? Trust your gut, follow your heart, and always work hard and help others along the way.
