Child Development Concentration
The Child Development concentration is intended for students who have a broad interest in working with young children ranging in age from birth to age eight. The Child Development concentration has four major foci: child development, teaching methodology and curriculum development, developmentally appropriate learning environments for young children, and homeschool-community relations. This concentration prepares undergraduates for careers in early childhood education and related fields requiring a strong knowledge of early development and early childhood programs. Students who are interested in pursuing a teaching career with preschool and kindergarten-aged children are encouraged to apply for admission to the Early Childhood Education Teaching Preparation Program during the fall of the junior year (see the Early Childhood Education Teaching Prepaation Program overview for description, requirements, and application procedures). Those who plan to pursue the master’s program in the UNH Department of Education should take EDUC 500 as early in their undergraduate program as possible AND work with BOTH their Human Development and Family Studies advisor AND an Education Department advisor to ensure a smooth application process and transition into that graduate program.

HDFS 525: Human Development
HDFS 708/709: Weekly 10-hour internship working with children between birth and 5 years at the CSDC and weekly 1-hour seminar.
