Brian Miller comes to UNH as a Clinical Assistant Professor after working in the social service field for over 35 years, as a counselor, trainer, manager, and consultant. He brings his expertise in the area of substance use disorders to create the Substance Use Disorders Graduate Certificate Program. For two years prior to accepting the position at UNH he was a full-time consultant for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, a Bureau that has been leading the nation in policy, new initiatives, and treatment strategies. As a teacher and trainer he draws from his diverse work experience in direct practice as a therapist in outpatient, inpatient, and school settings, as well as his macro social work experience in program development, evaluation, community organizing, policy analysis, and social service management. With hope and humor, he communicates his firm belief in the resilient qualities of individuals and families, and their ability to heal and recover from substance use disorders and psychiatric illnesses.
