Breton: Social work is such an important profession because it really is at the root of so much of what we do, especially in law enforcement. One of the biggest aspects of social work is making sure that we're creating programs that reach in rather than expecting people to reach out, and making sure that we're actually providing support and advocacy for things that they need.
That is really at the root and the foundation of what law enforcement is, at least to me, and a lot of our co-workers here at the Manchester Police Department and so it's very important to to focus on those support services that are available and making sure that we're connecting with people all throughout the community with those support services each and every day.
The internship program for us as an agency is extremely important. I think it's really valuable to be able to provide students with an educational experience that really empowers them and prepares them to be successful as they enter into the workforce.
Partnering with UNH and the social work program is something that is very rewarding for us because we get to get these young adults with a ton of energy a lot a lot of optimism and we immediately get to get them entrenched in our community and you get to see that confidence grow and see them prepare themselves to move on to the next chapter.
I would strongly encourage any young adult that's thinking about entering a helping profession to absolutely consider the UNH Social Work program. I think that the professional opportunities that they provide through internship programs such as this one are priceless. They get you in the field, working with like-minded professionals that are already doing the work and that are willing to share their skills and experience with you to help you be successful. I know that's what helped me as a young student and I am honored to be able to offer that opportunity for un students here at the Manchester Police Department.
