The Department of Recreation Management & Policy this week hosted U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Martha Williams at the Browne Center for a roundtable discussion about outdoor recreation and conservation efforts with UNH students, faculty, and staff, as well as high school students from Kennett High School and the Mount Washington Valley Career and Technical Center.

The discussion centered on youth engagement with the outdoors in New Hampshire, emphasizing unique partnerships among schools, communities, and government. Dean Corazzini and Michael Ferguson, associate professor in RMP, elaborated on UNH’s collaboration with the State of New Hampshire’s Division of Parks and Recreation to develop a detailed outdoor recreation and conservation strategy. They also shared with Secretary Haaland ways that UNH researchers are connecting young people with the outdoors and supporting NH’s $3 billion outdoor economy.
