The College of Health and Human Services has appointed Joonkoo (J.K.) Yun, Ph.D., as Professor and Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, effective August 19, 2024.
Dr. Yun comes to UNH from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where he was LeRoy T. Walker Distinguished Professor of the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Performance. Prior to joining the faculty at ECU, he was a Professor and IMPACT for Life Endowed Scholar in the School of Biological and Populations Health Sciences at Oregon State University. He earned a B.S. in Physical Education-Teacher Education from Sung Kyun Kwan University in Seoul, Korea, an M.S. in Adapted Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, and a Ph.D. in Human Performance from Indiana University.
Dr. Yun is a nationally recognized expert in his field, having been recently named a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology. Throughout his career he has been committed to improving the quality of adapted physical activity services for individuals with disabilities. His research focuses on issues related to measurement and revealing underlying mechanisms to promote physical activity and inclusion. His ultimate research goal is to promote full participation and active lifestyles to improve health and the quality of life of individuals with disabilities through evidence-based practice.
