The Department of Human Development and Family Studies houses the Child Study and Development Center and the Marriage and Family Therapy Center. These centers serve as the outreach arms of the department and provide opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and research for faculty and students. The Department of Human Development and Family Studies is also affiliated with the Family Connections Center.
The Child Study and Development Center is a laboratory school affiliated with the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of New Hampshire. A laboratory school is one with both an early care and education mission and an academic mission. Children attending the center, and the UNH students working at the center, benefit from the highly trained teaching staff and from the family studies faculty.
Managed jointly by the NH Department of Corrections and the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, this is a resource center in NH prison facilities for incarcerated parents and their children.

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies offers several internships that allow students to apply knowledge from their academic studies in a supervised environment, while gaining experience that is directly relevant to their career goals. Some specializations require an internship, while others offer an optional internship experience.

We are a training, research, and clinical site for the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at the University of New Hampshire. As part of our training procedure, our therapists operate using a team approach. The supervisory team includes your assigned therapist, a senior supervisor, and selected advanced family therapy trainees.
There are several scholarships, fellowships, and awards for which Family Studies majors may apply.
