Learn about her experience as a dual major in Social Work and Adventure Education

I love the outdoors. I love the intersection of social work and outdoor education and felt like this was a great fit. I'd looked all over the place and had heard that social work at UNH was a great place to be a social work student, and I felt like New England and UNH was a good fit for me.

I'm really passionate about preventive mental health and finding some avenue for preventive mental health to meet the adventure therapy world. It doesn't exist right now but that's where my passion lies. In the short term I hope to get licensed out west working with kids in the woods.

In our program, we're always reflecting on ourselves, and so we're taking the time to understand where our perspective comes from and how that influences the way that we interact with our clients and ourselves and the world around us. I think that is probably the the most valuable way that I've been prepared, because you never know who's going to be your client or what organization you're going to work for, but as long as like I'm aware of who I am and how I show up in the world I think that is what makes me well prepared to be a social worker.

UNH is one of the only places where you can do Social Work and Adventure Therapy and it's super valuable to have this perspective. Right now, specifically, we need it. We need to be outside, and it's a really cool avenue to connect with people and connect with ourselves. Places like the Brown Center or the college Woods at UNH are great places to kind of drop in and connect in that way.
