On April 15, 1984, the Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International was chartered at the University of New Hampshire with 110 members inducted. Since the chartering, the Chapter has inducted over 1100 members. In keeping with the mission of Sigma Theta Tau International, the vision for Eta Iota Chapter is to be recognized as a center for fostering nursing excellence through research, scholarship, professional development, mentoring, and community and global partnerships in order to influence health outcomes. The chapter celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2009 and continues to work towards expanding its membership.
Research Awards are given annually in the form of grants for research, quality improvement projects and community service to deserving active chapter members. Monies are also awarded to members to partially cover the costs of attending conferences to present research findings. Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau recognizes the importance of evidence based practice and encourages all active chapter members to apply for funding to aid in the conduct or completion of their work. The chapter invites eligible candidates to join the chapter through our annual induction ceremony. Information about eligibility may be found on the UNH nursing webpage through the STTI pull down menu, on STTI’s homepage or on the Circle homepage of Eta Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau accessible through the STTI homepage. The chapter endeavors to build a membership of outstanding nurses who represent the best in nursing leadership, scholastic achievement and research. Elections for new officers take place annually in March and the term of office is 2 years. The term runs from July 1st to June 31st. Prior to each election cycle an email goes out to the membership announcing available open board positions. The chapter also hosts several workshop and scholarship events throughout the calendar year and contributes to community service projects such as Wildcat Santa and Cornucopia Food Bank.
