On November 20, it was announced that University leadership had formally approved the internal proposal, which will keep the CSDC under UNH management while implementing a focused set of changes designed to strengthen the Center’s long-term financial sustainability.
Below is a summary of those changes, which will take place beginning in January of 2026:
1) Tuition Structure
The committee conducted extensive comparator research, and tuition rates will increase to align with the regional marketplace. After full implementation, tuition will be set at $500 per week for infants and toddlers, $400 per week for preschoolers, and $90 per day for children in part-time programs. Tuition will be charged for 50 weeks of service rather than 48 or 49. In addition, the sliding fee scale will be discontinued, and a dedicated discounted rate structure will be created for children of CSDC teachers.
Please note that families not on the sliding fee scale will begin paying the new tuition rates at the start of the spring semester, while families currently on the sliding fee scale will see tuition increases phased in gradually throughout the spring semester. Updated tuition information will be sent to all families shortly.
2) Hours of Operation
Standard operating hours will shift to 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with options under consideration for early drop-off and late pick-up for an additional daily fee. CSDC will continue to observe periods of reduced hours as outlined in this year’s calendars.
3) Supply Costs
To help reduce supply expenses, families will provide their own diapers, wipes, sunscreen, and bug spray.
4) Program Capacity
Enrollment in the part-time program will increase.
Changes to CSDC staffing that will take place later:
The plan recommends reducing the teaching team in the preschool classrooms from three full-time teachers to two, and reallocating two full-time teachers to a new classroom to expand the number of children served. The plan also recommends eliminating the Program Coordinator position at the CSDC.
There are currently three vacant positions—Assistant Director and two teaching positions. The timing of staffing changes will depend in part on when these positions are filled. We expect the new classroom to open in summer or fall of 2026.
We recognize that these changes are significant and will have an impact across our entire CSDC community. With support from CHHS, the CSDC team has important work ahead to implement each of these recommendations.
Parents and other stakeholders will receive ongoing updates and detailed information as we move through this transition, and are invited to submit questions here. We will continue to update this page to address questions that have not already been answered.
