RMP’s Mission:

To promote recreation as essential for quality of life, health, and well-being in individuals, communities, and the environment through excellence in teaching, clinical practice, and innovative scholarship, in collaboration with community stakeholders.

RMP’s Vision:

To be regionally distinctive and nationally significant for our contributions to professional preparation, research, and engaged scholarship in recreation, tourism, and related fields, and to be valued for our essential role in doing work that matters to students, UNH, the State of New Hampshire, and beyond.

RMP’s Permission to Play Values:

These are the baseline values that guide our everyday actions in our work together.

  • Trustworthy
  • Ethical
  • Honesty
  • Curiosity
  • Respect
  • Transparency

RMP’s Core Values:

These are the values that make RMP, RMP – our “secret sauce”

We approach our work with a pioneering spirit. (We blaze a trail)

  • We are unafraid to try new things and we support others as they pursue new endeavors.
  • We strive to be on the leading edge with our practice, research, and teaching.

We strive to make an impact. (We do trail work)

  • We work across local, state, regional, and national levels to change systems, policies, attitudes, and behaviors in ways that will improve the places people live, work, and play.
  • Our passion for teaching and learning inspires the next generation of professionals in and out of the classroom. We offer a career with meaning and deliver young professionals poised to start their careers.

We collaborate as a team. (We take others to the summit)

  • We embody the axiom of “work hard / play hard.” Time spent in leisure (personally and professionally) is valued.
  • Departmental relationships are collegial as a baseline. Humor, playfulness, and light-heartedness embody our ethos.
  • Individual wins are celebrated AND balanced with collective responsibilities to the department. When our department wins, our students win.
  • We thrive by lifting each other up. You will see us collaborate on research, guest lectures, co-presentations, co-pi’s on internal and external grants, and projects of all shapes and sizes.

RMP’s Aspirational Values:

We strive to maintain the following values, knowing they have multiple meanings in the context of our work and department culture:

  • Excellence
  • Sustainability
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Inclusion
  • Resilience
