National Core Indicators- Aging and Disabilities (NCI-AD) State of the Workforce Survey
What is State of the Workforce Survey?
Direct Support Workers (DSWs) play a vital role in ensuring that people of all ages can live with dignity, independence, and connection in their communities. As we plan for our own futures, it's essential to recognize that a strong and supported care workforce benefits all of us as we age.
That’s why New Hampshire is conducting the State of the Workforce Survey: to better understand and strengthen the systems that support this vital workforce. By gathering information from organizations that employ DSW we can build a future where aging is supported with respect and compassion—and where the workforce is valued, prepared, and empowered to meet the needs of our communities.
Why it Matters
Through this data, New Hampshire can describe the workforce using information like wages, benefits, turnover rates, vacancy rates, and more. Information collected through this effort is critical for:
- Supporting workforce development
- Understanding who DSWs are, how many exist, and what supports they need to thrive in their roles benchmarking New Hampshire’s workforce data, so that as demographics shift and long-term services grow, we can be proactive in how DSWs are supported
- Comparing New Hampshire’s workforce data to national averages
- Guiding policy decisions that help New Hampshire plan for the future of aging and disability services
Participating in the State of the Workforce survey aligns with New Hampshire’s commitment to:
- Supporting older adults and people with disabilities
- Strengthening the direct care workforce
- Using data to drive smart, compassionate policy decisions
