Bethany Swanson is a Project Director at the Institute for Health Policy and Practice with a primary focus on Health Analytics and Informatics. She is also a Licensed Master Social Worker – Clinical Conditional (LMSW-cc) in the State of Maine. Bethany has been with the Institute since 2021. Her current portfolio includes a variety of behavioral and mental health care projects, the State Health Assessment and State Health Improvement Plan (SHA-SHIP), and work on the State Opioid Response (SOR) Grant. Her research has also focused on improving data collection practices, particularly around the collection of social determinants of health (SDOH), race, ethnicity, and language (REaL), and sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data.
Before joining IHPP, Bethany spent several years working in memory care, in both direct practice and an internship with the Alzheimer’s Association: Vermont Chapter. She is passionate about person-centered and dementia-capable care, advocacy work, and social justice. Broadly, her interests include addressing the social determinants of health and improving access to quality and comprehensive healthcare for all.
