HMP major Muhamed Cesko

Looking back on your time at UNH so far, what are you most proud of and why?

My greatest accomplishments at UNH were the connections I was able to make in my time as an undergraduate student. The professors, students, and faculty that I connected with allowed me to realize my passion of contributing to healthcare at the local level. As I reflect on experiences at UNH, I am forever grateful to this community and all it has to offer.

What motivates you?

Coming from a family that immigrated into the United States in the early 2000s, I understood from a young age the importance of higher education and the opportunities it provides. Not everyone is fortunate enough to obtain a college degree and having that awareness from a young age continues to keep me motivated.

Why did you choose your major?

Ever since a young age I enjoyed being involved in my community and helping out others. Healthcare seemed like the perfect industry. I was fortunate to realize early that the clinical side was not for me, but the administrative side was something I wanted to explore. This program was the perfect blend of business knowledge tailored towards the healthcare industry, an area I always envisioned creating an impact in.

What are you planning to do after graduation?

I plan to continue my studies at UNH with a Master's in Health Data Science while working in a local healthcare organization. I love New Hampshire and this program gives me the flexibility to enter the local workforce while developing the most in demand technical skills in the healthcare industry.

How is your experience at UNH preparing you to achieve your goals?

UNH allowed me to see how diversity of experiences helps for innovative problem solving. Students from all corners of the globe come to UNH, bringing with them their personal experiences and stories. Seeing first hand how this diversity helps foster innovative solutions serves to remind me of the importance of working together to create lasting change.

Any advice for students interested in your major?

Network! Take advantage of your advisors and professors who have connections with leaders in the healthcare management space. Although it can be overwhelming, growing your network will help you to realize your passion and even help you with internships and jobs throughout your career. Attend all of the networking events UNH has to offer because you never know what opportunities will arise with one simple conversation.

Finally, tell us one reason you love UNH.

I love the wide range of activities UNH has to offer. There is a community for everyone. I was fortunate to be able to serve as the President of the UNH Chapter of Amnesty International, allowing me to meet students who shared my passion for human rights. Even though we were local, we were able to collaborate against human rights abuses across the globe.
